Step 1: Anmeldung

Registering at the Bürgeramt

Everyone residing in Germany must register their address with the local Residents’ Registration Office (Bürgeramt) within 14 days of moving in.

You cannot open a bank account, get an internet contract, or receive a tax ID without this registration.

Required Documents

  • Passport: Or National ID Card (for EU citizens).
  • Form: Completed "Anmeldung bei einer Meldebehörde" form.
  • Landlord Confirmation: The "Wohnungsgeberbestätigung" signed by your landlord.

Appointments are scarce!

In cities like Berlin or Munich, appointments can be booked out for months.
