Financial Setup

Opening a German Bank Account

Having a local IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is crucial. Landlords often refuse to debit foreign accounts, and internet providers require a German account for contracts.

While modern FinTech banks (like N26 or Vivid) offer quick online verification, traditional banks (Sparkasse, Deutsche Bank) may require an in-person visit.

Required Documents

  • Valid Passport or National ID
  • Registration Certificate (Anmeldebestätigung)
  • Proof of Student Status (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung)
  • Tax ID (Steuer-ID) - often requested later
